Provençal Markets to Visit in Fall & Winter
Some of our favorite parts of Fall include all of the autumnal markets and shops that make the season so festive. Their rich colors and aromatic scents make shopping a truly sensorial experience that lasts right into the new year. Here, our favorite Provencal markets to visit this month.
Saffron Farms
Rich and vibrant in color and taste, the saffron harvest takes place in October and November in Provence. Tour farms in the Alpes Maritimes, Bouches du Rhone, Les Alpes de Haute Provence, Var, and Vaucluse and add fresh saffron to your bouillabaisse, soufflés, desserts, and other holiday meals.
Foire aux Santons
The Aix-en-Provence Santon Fair is a real shop window for santon makers, giving you the chance to see newly-created figures and to start off or complete a nativity scene for your home.
Truffle Market
Every Friday morning from mid-November through to the middle of March, a truffle market takes place in Carpentras and Richerenches—running the length of black truffle season. It’s best to go early to get the delicious ingredients for all of your holiday and winter meals.
